AutoCAD

Computer Aided Design

The Program

Local 265's computer program uses AutoDesk's AutoCAD program as a tool to learn computer basics, sheet metal layout, field measuring, print reading, and the creation of shop drawings. Our facility offers two computer labs that supports 20 computer stations each. We are currently teaching AutoCAD 2021. We are on a subscription program through Autodesk that allows us to stay up to date with the current software release. One classroom is supported by ceiling mounted projectors, laser printers, a D-size plotter, internet accessibility. The newest lab has two 82 inch wall mounted monitors, laser printer, internet accessibility, and a 3D printer, both have well trained staff.

Apprentice Program

The computer program started back in October of 2000. We started with 16 computers running windows 98 and AutoCAD 98LT.We currently teach computers to 1st through 4th year apprentices. They will receive over 60 hours of hands-on training. The course objective is to teach basic computer skills, AutoCAD's software package, sheet metal layout, field measuring, print reading, and introduce the process of creating shop drawings.

Journeyperson Training

Our AutoCAD night program is currently separated into four separate courses; Basic, Advanced, and Revit. Now also offering Inventor.

Basic AutoCAD

This course is designed for an entry level student. Basic computer knowledge is helpful but not required. You will learn file management, windows interface, and the fundamentals of AutoCAD. The course will be very challenging and rewarding. The class meets once a week for 16 weeks. There are homework assignments, class assignments, and a final project to complete the course. We use the Detailing Textbook provided by the ITI.

Advanced AutoCAD

This course is designed for more advanced users. Passing the Basic AutoCAD final or instructors consent is required. The focus of the course will be detailing in a 2 dimensional environment. Time will be spent learning advance commands, scale dependency, plotting in model and paper space, shop drawing requirements, and print reading. The class meets once a week for 16 weeks. There are homework assignments, in class assignments and a final project to complete the course. We use the Detailing Textbook provided by the ITI.

Revit

This class is set up to teach you the Autodesk Revit functionality. You begin by learning about the user interface and basic drawing, editing, and viewing tools. Then you learn design development tools including how to model walls, doors, windows, floors and more. Finally, using the add-on SysQue, you will model an HVAC system inside the building you created.

Autodesk Inventor

Introduction to 3D Modeling Software to create solid part models and sheet metal parts. This course is taught to apprentices and journeyperson night classes.

Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge.

Instructors

Kelly Marcellis is program coordinator, apprentice program instructor and night program instructor.

Anthony Aarns also assists AutoCAD instruction.

Jason Lenertz is our night basic AutoCAD instructor.
