TAB Classes
TAB class starts - Wednesday Night September 20, 2023
The TAB program at Local 265 has been very popular since its inception back in the early seventies. Testing and balancing has become very important in the sheet metal industry, many buildings must be tested to find out what the Heating and Air Conditioning System is doing and if it is delivering the proper air and water quantities. The technician sets up the equipment and adjusts the systems to design specifications. The air course use too run 32 sessions covering the airside of the HVAC system. The water course use too run 18 sessions covering the water side of the HVAC system. Now the two courses run together 40 sessions, and cover the instruments used, how to use them, how to record the findings and develop a report. Math and the formulas for this kind of work also are a big part of the class.
The program is recognized and certified by the ILLINOIS-SMACNA, SMARTA Test And Balance program and will give the student a SMARTA air and water certification if the student successfully passes the final exam.
To expand our testing and balancing program even further our TABB certified lab offers the opportunity for our certified SMARTA balancers to become a ICB/TAB Certified Technician by taking and passing a written and hands on performance exam.
Any of you who hold a SMARTA Certification, should start thinking of upgrading to an ICB/TAB Technician Certification. Please call me if you have any questions on what route you would have to take to achieve that certification. Please get the word out to any balancing technicians you know.
Joel Orozco and Eric Bonny are the instructors for the night air and water TAB class. Eric is a full time balancer in the industry and brings a lot of experience to the class. Both are SMARTA, TABB and NEBB certified balancers.
If you are interested in becoming TAB certified please contact the education office.
